FAQs
Newsletters & Correspondence
Newsletters are issued at regular intervals to inform parents and students of news and events throughout the studio. All correspondence - Newsletters, Notices, Examination information etc. is issued via email, uploaded to our website and displayed on the notice board in the Reception.
Attendance
Attendance is recorded at all classes. Good attendance is imperative, as absences and tardiness can hold back an entire class, and the studio cannot jeopardise its responsibilities to the rest of the class for one student. Please make every effort to have your child at every class. If a class is missed, then students are able to attend a “make up class” in another grade in the same genre.
Illness
If too unwell to dance but able to attend school, it is very important that students come to class and watch. If you are too unwell to attend, pleaseensure a phone call is made to the studio. This is imperative in instances where private coaching or eisteddfod routines have been scheduled.
Class Observation Week
The Studio encourages Parent's to observe their child's progress throughout the year and therefore makes provisions for Class Observation Weeks throughout the year. Dates are advertised in the studio `Dance Calendar of Events’. This may alter in a Production year. Please DO NOT interrupt teachers during or in between classes. Parents are also invited to sit in and observe during Dress Rehearsals for Examinations.
Assessment Reports
If parents have any questions or need advice, guidance, or would like to talk about possible career paths in Dance, please contact the Director. We are more than happy to offer advice and assistance where possible. It is not a closed door between your child’s development in Dance and the Turning Pointe Teaching Faculty, so please, always feel comfortable to approach whatever the reason.
A written Assessment Report providing Parents with knowledge of how your child is progressing, encompassing Performance, Attitude, and Behaviour, can be issued upon request. If you would like to obtain one of these reports please see the office.
Email & Phone Calls
Turning Pointe Dance Studios Director and Teaching faculty are available to answer any of your queries via email or phone. If the phone is unattended at the time, there will always be an answering machine to take you message and some-one will return your call as soon as possible. Please avoid contacting teachers during or between classes.
Insurance
Turning Pointe Dance Studios does not carry medical insurance for its students. It is encouraged that all dance students be covered by their own family's private health insurance, and if injuries occur it is understood that the student's own policy is your only source of reimbursement. The studio does carry Public & Products Liability and Professional Indemnity, as well as practice "Safe Dance" techniques. All teaching faculty possess Blue Cards and Senior First Aid Certificates.
Supervision
The Student is only supervised by the staff of the school during tuition. Appropriate drop-off and collection time must be arranged by the guardian/parent before and after tuition.
Physical Contact
During tuition a member of the teaching faculty may make physical contact with the Student, in the following circumstances:
- In order to provide instruction to the Student when demonstrating exercises or techniques.
- Where in the reasonable opinion of the School, a Student requires any treatment for any Body Injury e.g. bandage or ice pack.
Electronic Recording
Electronic recording of students by fellow students (eg via Mobile Phone) whilst in class is strictly prohibited. Under no circumstances are photos or videos of students of Turning Pointe Dance Studios to appear on internet sites such as YouTube or Face Book without prior written permission from the Director and Student’s Parents.
Copyright
The Studio is often asked to record student’s class music for practice at home. This practice unfortunately, is very illegal under current copyright laws. This music may be purchased directly from the RAD & FATD independently, and at an extra cost. Turning Pointe Dance Studios pay a lot of money annually, to fall in line with all the copyright laws and these will not be broken.
